A Truly Novel Virtual Tabletop

A virtual tabletop, or VTT, is software that allows your group, no matter where in the world they all are, to gather around the game table and play your pen-and-paper, tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). For this purpose, Pandoren Game Studios is building GuildTable, pushing the boundaries of what a VTT is and can do.

At its heart, a VTT typically displays a gameboard, or RPG map, upon which player character (PC) and non-player character (NPC) tokens move around a predefined grid, allowing your group to interact with the story. Add to this a full audio and video conferencing experience – and you’re ready to feel like you’re physically in the room together while problem-solving and having a blast.

But as you’ll soon see, GuildTable is so much more than this.

Features

Forged from the Shards of iTabletop…

GuildTable is iTabletop’s spiritual successor – only much better. During iTabletop’s heyday, it offered a deeply media-rich platform for storytelling, in-game video conferencing for face-to-face play, a layered Hi-Fi music and sound effect system for building immersive ambiance, a virtual room system so you could lead one or more players into private rooms to talk privately at any time, an insanely powerful asset sharing system, and much more.

Admittedly there were a few drawbacks as well – like lack of a basic, no-frills whiteboard, no automatic image resizing when uploading, no rules engines for common RPG systems, no support for Android or iOS mobile form-factors, and ultimately Microsoft’s sunsetting of the Silverlight platform on which it was built.

Fortunately, GuildTable takes advantage of all we learned from our customers over the years, filling some gaps while adding many novel and powerful new features into the mix. GuildTable is the iTabletop we always wanted it to be.

Natively Cross-Platform

GuildTable compiles down to native apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, making it playable on desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Native apps mean both higher performance and greater technical longevity. While game development takes place mainly on desktop form factors, running and playing the game happens on both desktop and mobile platforms.

Everything’s Programmable

All objects in your game, including the game itself, can easily be programmed using Proteus™ – our proprietary graphical, no-code programming framework. As such, you can program any imaginable rule system or even an entire epic game engine – without being a professional developer. This changes everything.

The Power of Thingies

We call any object we, or you, create – a Thingie™. Every Thingie, be it a character token, an amulet, a room, a map, a journal, a die, a deck of cards, or a jukebox for example, starts as one image file, and can hold any number of additional images, sounds, videos, documents, whiteboards, web links, Proteus Logic Engines™, and more. Thingies can even hold other Thingies. Ponder that for a minute…

Ainsley™ – The GM’s New AI Artist and Writer

We’ve done the work of learning how to coax AI into creating the exact image and written content we need for our scenarios and campaigns. To save you double-digit hours learning how to generate the high-quality graphics and pros you need for your games, we’re building Ainsley, a simplified yet intuitive AI front end for you, with dropdown items and checkboxes, and a smart backend that composes your prompts properly and submits them directly to DALL-E and ChatGPT for you, with the resulting content automatically available in your asset library. AI should have always been this easy.

Wade through the Darkmire™ Fog of War

No RPG game system would be complete without a powerful fog of war mechanic to simulate the feeling of being entangled in darkness as you explore your surroundings and engage enemies in battle. We’re building our Darkmire Fog of War system to be quick and easy for GMs to set up and manage, and to have the intelligence to offload much of the work and provide an eerie effect. With a hook into the  SoundTapestry music and ambiance system, the feel of the game can change as players move in and out of the darkness. The end result is a more immersive and engaging play experience.

Light Your Path with Firelight™

Any Thingie you create can be a Firelight. As a GM, use Firelight together with Darkmire Fog of War for a highly realistic effect. A Firelight can be a flickering sconce on the dungeon wall, a lamppost along the path, a torch your character carries, or anything else you can imagine. Use images and videos to make your light appear however you want, and control it using intensity and falloff settings. Set other Thingies as switches that can turn the light on or off manually, and optionally link the switches to game events for an automated approach.

A Tapestry of Sound

SoundTapestry™ layers and mixes music and sound effects in real-time, streaming an immersive, cinematic sound experience to your group. Music and SFX are triggered by a number of events, such as entering a new place, starting a battle, or rolling high or low, to name a few. Like everything in GuildTable, each instance of SoundTapestry can be programmed with Proteus, for an incredibly distinctive result.
